Mounds Park Community Garden is excited to partner with the Saint Paul Southwest Girl Scouts Community to host a special garden day for local Girl Scouts and their leaders. This event is a private gathering designed specifically for Girl Scouts in the Southwest community.
Join us as we celebrate the joy of gardening through hands-on learning and outdoor fun! Activities are currently tentative, but will likely include:
🌼 Composting and soil maintenance: Caring for a garden is a year-round activity. Preparing your beds for winter can keep the soil healthy, and set you up for success in the spring!
🌱 Seed saving and the importance of seed libaries: Expert facilitator with the MNSeed Project, Dawn Lamm will discuss the importance of seed libraries and seed sharing. She’ll guide scouts on a seed saving workshop where they’ll get to take seeds home to plant!
Other activities forthcoming: Stay tuned for more exciting activities!
All Girl Scouts who attend will receive a fun patch to commemorate the day.
Some activities also align with badge and journey steps that troop leaders may choose to build on later:
Daisy: Between Earth and Sky Journey (with an optional take-home reflection)
Brownie: Bugs badge (meet local insects and pollinators)
Junior: Gardener and Flowers badges (native plant education and planting techniques)
Cadette, Senior, Ambassador: Outdoor Art badges
Please note: This is not a drop-off event. Troop leaders and guardians must maintain proper supervision ratios throughout the event. Need directions? Select this link for the Google Map location of Mounds Park Community Garden.
